Quick answer
Try a different server first, then toggle Wi-Fi or cellular off and on. If it still fails, switch networks entirely: if SecureNet connects on cellular but not on the Wi-Fi you were using, that network is blocking VPN traffic. If the app says it is connected but nothing loads, pick another server. If none of that helps, check that your subscription is active in Settings, then share the Diagnostics log from Settings with support.
Key facts
- Step one is always a different server. Most failures are one server, not the service.
- Step two is the network. Toggle Wi-Fi or cellular, or switch between them.
- Connected but no internet means the tunnel is up and the server is not passing traffic. Change server.
- Some networks block VPNs. If it works on cellular and not on that Wi-Fi, it is the Wi-Fi.
- Diagnostics in Settings produces a log you can send to support.
The sequence
- Pick a different server. Open Servers and tap another country, or tap the Recommended card to let Automatic choose again. One server having a bad moment is the most common cause and takes five seconds to rule out.
- Toggle the network. Turn Wi-Fi off and on, or cellular off and on, then connect again. This clears a surprising number of stuck states in the network stack.
- Switch networks. If you are on Wi-Fi, try cellular, and the other way round. If SecureNet connects on one and not the other, the failing network is blocking or interfering with VPN traffic. Hotel, school and office networks do this.
- Check your subscription. Settings shows your plan. If it shows the free plan and you have paid, tap Restore purchases and make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID.
- Reinstall the VPN configuration. On iPhone: Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, remove SecureNet, then connect again in the app and allow the prompt. On Mac: System Settings, VPN.
- Send us the log. Settings, Diagnostics, share. It contains connection events, not your browsing, and it usually tells us the cause immediately.
What the messages mean
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The server didn't respond within 30 seconds | The handshake never completed; the server or the path to it is unreachable | Try another server, then another network |
| Connected but there's no internet | The tunnel is up but the server is not forwarding traffic | Switch server; the app suggests this itself |
| We tried several servers but couldn't connect | Every attempt failed, which points at the network you are on | Switch to cellular or a different Wi-Fi; the network is likely blocking VPN traffic |
| Connection check warning | You were connected and the internet became unreachable | Reconnect; if it recurs on one server, change server |
| Purchase couldn't be verified | The App Store did not confirm the subscription | Wait a few seconds and retry, then Restore purchases |
Connected, but nothing loads
This one confuses people because the app says connected and the status bar shows the VPN badge. The tunnel really is up; the problem is on the far side, where the server is not passing traffic properly. SecureNet's connection check catches this and warns you rather than leaving you staring at a spinner. The fix is a different server. If it happens on every server, the network you are on is interfering with the traffic after the handshake, and switching networks is the test.
Networks that block VPNs
Some networks are configured to block or throttle VPN traffic: hotels, conference venues, schools, some workplaces, and some countries. The symptom is consistent: SecureNet fails on that network and works the moment you switch to cellular. There is no setting in the app that gets around a network that is deliberately blocking; the honest answer is to use a different network. WireGuard is efficient over cellular, so this is usually a fine fallback.
It keeps disconnecting
- Weak Wi-Fi. If the underlying network drops, the tunnel drops with it. Move closer to the router or switch to cellular.
- Switching between Wi-Fi and cellular. WireGuard handles this without a reconnect in normal cases. If it does not, toggle the network once.
- Low Power Mode or aggressive battery settings on some networks can interrupt background connections. Reconnect when you unlock; if it recurs constantly, send us the log.
- A specific server. If disconnects follow one server, pick another. The load and health indicators in the server list help.
First connection never works
If the very first connection fails, the usual cause is that the system permission prompt was dismissed. Open Settings, General, VPN & Device Management and check whether SecureNet is listed. If it is not, connect again in the app and tap Allow when iOS asks. Our setup guide walks through the prompt.
Before writing to support, do steps one to three. If the problem survives a different server and a different network, include the Diagnostics log and we will find it quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my VPN say connected but nothing loads?
The tunnel is up but the server is not passing traffic. Switch to another server. SecureNet's connection check warns you when this happens.
Why does the VPN work on cellular but not on Wi-Fi?
That Wi-Fi network is blocking or interfering with VPN traffic. Hotels, schools and offices commonly do this. Use cellular or a different network.
Does the Diagnostics log contain my browsing?
No. It contains connection events and technical details about the tunnel, not the sites you visit or your traffic.
I paid but the app shows the free plan. What do I do?
Open Settings and tap Restore purchases, making sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase. If it still does not resolve, email us with your receipt.
